Long has Sir Roland, the eldest son of the Duke, admired Sir Taren and his battles. He has ridden with him on occasion, and has proved himself to be much like unto him in temperment.

Although not as apt a leader as his younger brother, Richard, Sir Roland has a brave and noble spirit. With none else to call upon, he led a small company of Knights and Knights Errant against the Thrall of the Swamps, a minor vampire that arose on the border between Lyonesse and cursed Mousillon. Many of the Errants who earned their spurrs that day continue to follow him, and fight against the cursed unliving.
